The Bible when read for understanding under the guiding of God’s Holy Spirit is an intriguing book. As one reads through its content and return to read it again, they discover a single story weaving throughout thousands of generations, which reveals layer upon layer of deeper truths. However, so much was never recorded in its many books which complement each other as the Lord God reveals some of the details of the lives of individuals whom He has chosen to interact with. Some to their benefit and others to their detriment.
I have often imaged what some of the earlier conversation may have included; but were never provided to the writers of Scripture. Image with me a possible conversation between Adam and the Creator during those early days in the Garden, as recorded in Genesis chapter 2.
The Lord: Adam!
Adam: Yes, Lord.
The Lord: Come walk with me thought the garden which I created. I want you to see all the works of my hands which are here on the earth. Every herb that yield seed and every tree that yields fruit, the bird of the air, beast of the field and creeping thing which I’ve caused to have life. Everything is in perfect working order; I’ve also commended them to reproduce after their kind and to fill the earth. You, Adam are to care for My garden, to have dominion over every living thing and to subdue the earth.
Insight: As Adam and the Lord God walked through the garden along the mountain ranges, into the valleys and across rivers, ponds and lakes, they approached the first animal. Adam bends forward and with the palm of his hand, he lifts its face and peers deeply into its eyes.
Adam: Lord, such a tremendous face, and glorious mane. (Separating the animals lips) His teeth are large and ferocious. (Adam, steps back and commands) Speak! (At which time the animal gives forth a horrifying roar which disturbed all the other animals of the garden. Adam’s face is immediately filled with delight and amazement. With an even louder voice, Adam again commands). Speak!!! (Again, this powerful beast gives forth a tremendous roar. Adam immediately raps his arm around the animals neck as he pivots toward the Lord, beaming as his looks up at the Creator). Lion, I will call him lion, because he is strong and powerful. He will be feared by many as the Lord is feared by all; he is strong and powerful as the Lord has also made Man to be strong and powerful. (Adam turns back and faces the male animal and the female beside him; you shall be called lion and those that you issue forth shall be your cubs.
Insight: Adam and the Lord continued their walk through the garden, Adam frequently looking into the face of the Lord with excitement and delight; the Lord returning his looks with deep joy and satisfaction. The next animal they approached was very different from the first. This animal was much, much smaller and of a different hue and texture. Adam bent down to lift this animal into his arms as he returned to stand beside of the Lord God. As he stroked this animal, it trembled in his arms; with a gentle voice, Adam whispered.)
Adam: Speak. (The animal let forth a soft bleep, which seemed to cascade or skip across the cool evening air. Its fleece was soft, thick and intertwined, but uncurling as Adam ran his fingers along its back. Looking again into the face of the Lord, Adam proclaims.) Sheep; because this animal is extremely gentle and timid, I will call him sheep. (Placing the animal back on the ground, and looking carefully at the male and female; Adam proclaims.) You shall be called sheep and the young that you issue forth are to be called lambs.
Insight: And so similar activities continued across the garden as the two, the Lord God and Adam, inspected every living creature on the face of the earth. As they entered the water, Adam would race alongside the sea creature which he referred to as “the great white shark” and nestled against what he would call “the blue whale.” The Lord God took great joy in the delight experienced by Adam as they explored every living creature that the Lord God had placed upon the face of the earth, in the air above and in the sea beneath.
As they encounter each new animal, Adam although amazed by the uniqueness of each creature, was growing more and more discontent. Although, he was unable to verbalize this feeling, because it was just beneath the surface of his awareness, the Lord God was completely aware of it and had chosen this time and these events to draw it out. Because, prior to the creation of man, God had determined that it was not good for the man to be alone on the earth and that he should have a helper suitable or comparable to himself. So after the man had given a name to every living creature on the face of the earth, the Lord God caused the man to enter a deep sleep. During this time, the Lord removed from the man flesh and bone in order that He may fashion it into a women. Once He was finished, Adam regained consciousness.
Adam, as he awoke, felt very strange. Something unusual had occurred, something was very different, now. Something had forever changed within his person, but he did not have words to describe what he detected within himself. Then he noticed that he and the Lord were not alone, there was someone else. A presence in the garden which was both new and familiar at the same time. Adam rose to his feet and approached this beautiful and never before seen creature. He gasped, and walked forward still with his mouth open.
Adam: Where? When? (Then rubbing his own side, he gently takes both of her hands into his, he steps back as his eyes cascades across her body; she first meets his gaze, then turns away as if to hide her responsive and excepting smile. Releasing one of her hands to turn and face the Lord with a hint of a tear in one eye which both the Lord and the woman noticed, he exclaimed). This is now (looking back at her) bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. (Adam returned his gaze to the woman who now occupied the garden with him as he walks first behind her and then returning to face her, being careful to release one of her hands while simultaneously clasping the other; she looks into his face and giggles softly, a sound which Adam has never heard before. The sound of her voice fills the garden and for Adam forever changes the quality of its atmosphere; this immediately bring a smile to Adams face). She is wonderfully beautiful (Adam exclaims). Beautiful in face and form! (The Lord also smiles at the couple and proclaims).
The Lord: Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. (The Lord delighted in the two as they enjoyed each other’s company).
