Don't Walk Away From The Promises

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Cor 15:58)

I learned some valuable lessons growing up on a farm in Kentucky. I learned about the value of hard work and the satisfaction of a job well done. I also learned a lot about bovine psychology, in other words, how cows think. I found out that cows love salt, can kick with surprising accuracy even when apparently not looking at you, and that much like people, always believe the grass is greener on the other side.

One of the most valuable lessons was how to handle (in some cases survive) a standoff with one of the four legged creatures. On one occasion I found myself standing in an open field a short distance away from a 1,000 pound cow, who for whatever reason, was slowly coming toward me with head lowered and sending all the angry cow non-verbals. There was no fence to climb and nothing to hide behind. There was no way I could outrun the cow (they are surprisingly fast and maneuverable) and lacking super powers it was unlikely I could wrestle the animal to the ground. My only shot was to bluff. I stood my ground, made some noise, waved my arms around, and took a few steps toward her. Much to my delight she turned and ran.

Our enemy is much like the cow I faced. He makes a lot of noise, threatens to charge, accuses us of things, and makes it look like he is going to run over us. He walks around “as a roaring lion,” or pretending to be a lion, seeking whom he may devour. The good news is that Christians who are living under God’s protection and following his laws are immune to the enemy’s threats. Paul tells us to be steadfast and unmovable in the face of our adversary. James 4:7 tells us to “resist the devil and he will flee from you.” Isaiah 54:17 promises that “no weapon formed against us shall prosper,” that none of the enemy’s terror tactics can harm us. The only way the enemy can succeed is if we turn.

If your circumstances look grim, pull your faith together and decide to be steadfast in your belief that God will take care of the situation. Don’t allow anything or anyone to convince you to walk away from God’s best for your life. Remember that FEAR is:
