Unloading groceries, filing paperwork, and setting the table! Do you ever get tired of jobs that seem to be monotonous? I have noticed that sometimes it is the little jobs that bother me the most. I would like for you to take a challenge with me. I am going to try my best to look at these areas as well as all others from another perspective, the perspective of serving and blessing others.
Not too long ago, I was reading in Exodus about the priests and their duties. Twice in Exodus 40, it speaks of the priests being anointed so that they, “May serve Me as priests.” This sends a very clear message that their purpose was to serve the Lord. As you read more about the priests, you see that they served the Lord by serving people. In Hebrews 2:17, we see that Jesus is referred to as our High Priest.
“For this reason, He had to be made like His brothers in every way, in order that He might become a merciful and faithful High Priest in service to God…”
Jesus definitely showed service to God by serving people. He told the disciples, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom to many.” Mark 10:45 When I started putting all of this together in my head, I felt somewhat humbled. There is an anointing on being a wife and mother. Our anointing is not as a slave, but as a servant who should desire to bless our families. If the priests of the Old Testament, and most definitely Christ were appointed to serve, what would make us any better than them?
As I have mentioned before, service to our families is truly a privilege. We have the opportunity to bless the ones we love! I think that a lot of times we just get caught up in the busyness of the day’s activities and forget that. My challenge is that in all we do, we will look at how our work can be a blessing to our families. In changing our perspective, the menial tasks become blessings and we won’t mind being a part of them. If our example is Christ and we see that He served us with the ultimate sacrifice of His life, we should be thrilled that our service lies in areas so monotonous as unloading the groceries!
