I have been reading through the book of Exodus. Currently I am on all the details of the building of the tabernacle and the duties that went along with it. If you are not careful, it is easy to read sections of the Bible like this and think they are filled with history that doesn’t apply to us. Oh the nuggets of Truth we miss! This morning, I read about Bezalel and Oholiab. This is what the scriptures had to say about them:

“I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability, and knowledge in all kinds of crafts.” Exodus 31:3

“Also I have given skill to all the craftsmen to make everything I have commanded you.” Exodus 31:6

The Lord immediately spoke to me about all of the ways He equips us for the things that He calls us to do. Another way of looking at this is the things we excel in and enjoy are things we should be doing for His Kingdom, not just to make a living.

It is amazing to see how He has done this in my own life. As many of you know, my profession is teaching. I have been trained to be a teacher, and He has given me qualities that teachers need. Not only has He allowed me to help students and actually earn money for teaching, but I have also had the chance to be a part of His Kingdom work through VBS and Sunday School. Now He has allowed me to start “Out of the Nest & Beyond,” another teaching ministry. Sometimes it is overwhelming to think that He would be so much in the details of my life that He would take my training & characteristics and put them together with my “home” desires to give me a new opportunity. That is just how He works. He gives us the skills, abilities, knowledge, and yes, even desires to do all that He has commanded of us.

Take a look at what you are the best at and think how you can use that to minister to others. Whether you work at home or away from home, it doesn’t matter. Let’s just focus now on our home lives. Think of all the many skills it takes to run a household and raise a family! You may be great at cleaning, cooking, organizing, decorating, financial planning, teaching, communicating, sewing, or crafts. The list could go on forever. In each of these areas, you can minister to the people around you. You could have a ministry with people who are sick or the shut-ins at your church. You may take what you know and use it to help young wives or mothers. (Read Titus 2:3-5) Our youth can use all the Godly mentors they can get. If nothing else, there are always things that can be done at the church.

If you will take a look at what you are good at, and what you enjoy, you will be able to find an area of ministry. Like the verses states, the Lord gives us the skills, abilities, and knowledge to accomplish His purposes! Let’s make sure we are doing just that. I would like to leave you with one of my daughter’s favorite verses:

“Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” I Corinthians 10:31
