When I Hear the Honk I look Up!

Being Canadian, every spring and fall I gladly anticipate the honk honks of the Canada Geese migrations. Whenever I hear their loud, persistent honks I automatically look up. There's something about those majestic creatures. Their melodious sounds seem to be beckoning all those in their flight path to share in their jubilation.

It's as if they are saying, 'hi guys down there, we're going on a trip down South,' or 'Hey, we're back! Did you miss us?'

Imagine them up there, constantly encouraging one another and singing praises for the vehicle that's transporting them. Yes, they have a mode of transportation. Sure, they have their wings and they're built to fly. But each one on their own or an average family of eight would not be able to fly the thousands of miles to their destination. They are programmed with a unique mode of transportation to fulfill their purpose.

God has designed the Canada Geese to gather in groups of several families. They follow their chosen leader, but not haphazardly or in a straight line. They know instinctively that if they spread out in a V formation, they are carried by the prevailing updrafts of the air currents. When the leader gets tired, he relinquishes his authority to the next strongest right behind him. He then 'rests' by receding to the end of one of the lines. That's where the youngest and weakest birds are supported by the strongest air currents.

Not only are they equipped with the mode of transportation. They also have a flight plan. They know exactly where they're headed and how to get there. Researchers who tracked their migrations have discovered that their flight plan always follows the original coastline of North America!

Do you realize that you are meant to soar? Like the geese, as with the eagle, God has not made you to stay motionless on the ground or to fly on your own or in a small clique. He has provided you with the updrafts of the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, He has set you in a family of believers. Spread your wings and get out of your small, limited environment. You are meant to interconnect with the family of God. If you honor those set over you and assist the weaker ones by sharing one another' burdens, then His ultimate purpose for your life will become clear to you.

Picture yourself 'honking' like those beautiful birds. God encourages you to speak your needs out loud, sing praises of thanksgiving, and counter attack your problems with God's Word. Do you know what happens when you do that? The devil, your enemy will look up from his lowly position. He will see how you are free, powerful, guided and supported. Your praise to God is your most powerful weapon. It will transport you to places you cannot begin to imagine.

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber." (Ps. 121: 1-3)
