Without Natural Affection

A terrible news story broke out recently about a 17-month-old toddler who was slowly tortured to death by his evil stepfather. The poor little boy was beaten and had his fingernails pulled out. One finger tip was severed. This slow torture happened over a period of six months with the full knowledge of the mother! Social services checked on the child some 60 times but didn’t save him from certain death. The police and various social workers pleaded with the courts to have the little boy placed in a foster home which was already waiting for him. But the rights of the hard-hearted teenage mother won out, and the fate of the baby was sealed. After the horrible story broke out, the public (and government officials) were outraged at the incompetency of various doctors and social workers, because similar crimes have been committed before, with politicians reassuring the populace that “lessons will be learned”. But they never are.

You’ve heard the old story about the “wicked stepmother.” But that brutal excuse for a human being is the stepfather from hell. Seems to me that such a wicked man saw in the poor helpless child the image of his love rival, and the easiest option was to take his frustrations out on a soft target incapable of fighting back. Perhaps the mother felt ambivalent toward the child because she felt hostile toward her “ex” and that’s why stepparent abuse is so often tolerated. The child’s injuries were often disguised with smeared chocolate so social workers wouldn’t spot them.

The day before the baby died he was brought in to see the doctor, who didn’t want to examine him closely because the child was “acting fussy”. The doctor couldn’t be bothered to look at the baby’s broken back and several broken ribs which could have explained his “fussy” behavior. Or the gash on top of its head, or the blood smears around its ears. Not to mention the missing finger parts. The very next day that poor baby left this cruel world for a much better place. Heaven is a splendid place. But no child should have to go there the way that poor baby did.

How could any mother allow her lover to harm her own baby, regardless of who the biological father of the child is? Even a dog takes better care of its puppies! What kind of sicko monster tortures a tiny baby for six months? The devil is at work as never before on Planet Earth. How else do you explain the lack of love in a mother’s heart toward her own child, and her love for a brutal beast who destroys the fruit of her womb?

In this case, and even in other situations you hear about, you’ll recognize the evil fruits of modern society’s disregard for God and its rejection of His plan for the integrity of marriage and family. Even where stepparent abuse is much milder and only verbal, there is the heartbreak of not belonging. A loving dad is prohibited by law from seeing his child often enough. The mother might hate the child’s father enough to use the child as a pawn to punish him by withholding visitation rights. At the same time, her love for the child of her first “relationship” may have cooled because just looking at that tiny face reminds her of the other face she now detests. It’s not that she wants the child all to herself because she loves him. She wants the dad to suffer. And the child knows it. And later, when children are born of the second “relationship” (it used to be marriage), the stepparent drops many hints to let the child of the first union know he/she doesn’t really belong to the present family unit.

Rom.1: And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Verse 29: Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Verse 30: Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Verse 31: Without understanding, covenantbreakers, WITHOUT NATURAL AFFECTION, implacable, UNMERCIFUL:
Verse 32: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
