Worship is the primary purpose for the church (John 4:24; Revelation 14:1-3). God in His wisdom gave the church a mission and ministry to accomplish the purpose of the church. The mission is to make disciples and to teach holiness. The ministry includes the works of service necessary for the mission. The ministry of the church is the service of the church. Ministry is the spiritual labor of every person that belongs to the body of Christ.
The authority for ministry has been given to the church through men called to prepare God’s people for works of ministry (Ephesians 4:11-16). Christ has given elders to the church so every member in the body would be prepared to serve according to the gifts distributed by the Holy Spirit.
Every Christian should be involved in the ministry of the church according to the gift that Christ has given to every individual Christian. The ministry of the church depends on the unity of the faith, full knowledge of Jesus, and spiritual maturity. A spiritually mature man in contrast to a child “tossed to and fro with every wind of doctrine” is necessary for the effective ministry of the body of Christ.
Do you want to enhance the ministry of the church? Then you should:
1. Use your natural gifts to serve the body of Christ.
2. Use your financial resources to bring the ministry to its fulfillment.
3. Use God’s means of grace to better equip you to serve in the body of Christ.
The church on earth cannot reach perfection, but she can anticipate perfection through the ministry of the church. An effective ministry means that the mission of the church (evangelism and teaching holiness) will have a foundation that will be unbreakable by every wind of doctrine and the trickery of men. Christians are called to carry out the mission and ministry of the church so that worship will be pleasing to God and a joy for the worshipper.
