Touching the Kingdom of God
by
Andrew Benner
There is a deeper dimension to reality that we may not
perceive in our everyday lives. Through Jesus Christ, we are able to see
this dimension. This is the Kingdom of God.
Let us picture the surface of the ocean filled with many waves. Some are
high, some are low, some are rising, some are falling, some are
beautiful some are less beautiful. A wave may suffer because while she
knows that she is a wave, she has not yet seen the deeper dimension of
her reality. While she is a wave, she is also water. Once she touches
her surface, water, she will see this dimension, and is liberated from
all fear.
To explain, let us examine the terms Vertical Theology vs. Horizontal
Theology. Vertical theology states that there is a Creator of all, and
that he is distinctly separate from his creation. Not only do you have a
soul, but so does god.
Horizontal Theology states that God can be seen in all things, and that
God is not separate from the reality in which we live. Therefore, God
can then be seen in all things, such as nature, people, and animals.
When Jesus Christ was sent to us, God came from the vertical, and made
himself part of the horizontal. The creator became part of his creation.
Through his sacrifice, there is now a closer relationship with God that
was not previously available.
God is no longer distinctly separate from us. Thus the vertical and the
horizontal meet at the point of Jesus Christ. Through coming into the
horizontal, he was able to teach us of the vertical. The water was able
to teach the waves.
Jesus taught in order for us to understand what we could not know, to
reveal what was hidden. This is why Jesus spoke of the Kingdom of God.
It is through him that the Kingdom of God is available to us in the
present moment.
By being mindful of the Holy Spirit in the here and the now, we will see
the Kingdom of God. We do not have to wait until we die to be with
Jesus, because he is available in the here and the now. If we are able
to develop the seed of understanding, we will understand the Kingdom of
God is not some far from us. His Kingdom has already come, and it has
manifested within us.
