The Body For The Lord
THE BODY FOR THE LORD.
BENNY Hinn had developed a problem in his body. If I remember rightly it was something to do with his heart. He had been looking to God about it for some time, but was getting no answers. On his Television program, he shared how became frustrated and complained, 'Lord what's the story here, I have been praying to you about this and you are not answering me? Gods response was, 'I don't bless stupidity'.
Not understanding what that meant he asked for an explanation. The Lord bought to his attention some bad eating habits he had gotten into. I don't remember the details but it was to do with junky unhealthy food. When he improved his diet, he was healed of the problem condition and has promoted healthy eating through his Television program ever since.
I believe there is an important Biblical principle illustrated here. When we commit our lives to the Lord we also commit our bodies to Him.
'Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are Gods. (1Corinthians 6:19,20)
Our bodies now belong to God.
We have the responsibility of the management of our bodies;
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. (Romans 12:1)
Paul is saying, in light of all that Jesus has done for us, it is only reasonable that we present our bodies to God in a way that is acceptable to Him. In our day and age there is an abundance of information available about healthy and unhealthy eating. In time's past there was often no understanding about healthy practises, but we get the health message from all sides today.
We cannot expect God to heal us and keep us well if we are not doing our part. I have learned a few hard lessons myself along these lines. A few years ago it had come to my notice from a Doctor and some other sources, that I should be drinking more water and staying away from sugary fizzy drinks. I stuck to drinking water for a while but eventually went back to almost exclusively drinking soft drinks. After a few months I contracted urinary tract infection, because my system was not getting the flush out that water naturally gives us. I spent 6 days in hospital. I knew that I could have avoided that experience if I had been drinking a sufficient amount of water.
The New Testament says that the body is for the Lord and the Lord for the body. God will meet the needs of our bodies if we keep our body for the Lord.
