How Often Should We Pray?

Oh Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, holy is Your name. Mighty in Power You are. There is none like You. Thank you for your word that leads us in the way of righteousness. Thank you for your Holy Spirit to guide us in all truth. Thank you for Jesus Christ who sacrificed Himself that we might have a relationship with you and eternal life. Your Word has much to say about prayer. Jesus told us to watch and pray lest we fall into temptation.

How Often Should We Pray?

Over 392 times prayer is talked about in the Bible. In Old Testament times people prayed for everything it seems. They prayed for rain, and for no rain. They prayed for deliverance from their struggles and to bear their struggles. They prayed for their food and thanked you for their food. They sought your Face in prayer. They turned their hearts to You in prayer. They asked for forgiveness of their sins. They prayed for wisdom and understanding and guidance. They prayed for signs to show them the way.

Pray all the time

They prayed in the morning, at noon, and in the evening. In the New Testament we are instructed to pray continually and to never cease praying. We are to pray for our enemies and those who persecute us. We are told to believe what we pray so that we may receive what we pray for. We are told to pray in Jesus’ name to receive it. What is prayer?

Make Praying a conversation

It’s a conversation. A conversation with the Maker of the Universe, the Master of all beings, the Lord of lords, the King of kings, the Prince of Peace, Mighty Counselor, and Lover of our souls.

Why is prayer so difficult sometimes? Could it be our flesh is stronger than it should be? Is Satan really behind the lack of prayer? Are we simply too prideful to pray? Father forgive us if our lack of prayer is caused by us. Help us press in and pray. For you know the plans you have for us, plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us a future and a hope. Guide us this day into prayer. Turn our hearts to You. May we seek you with our whole being. May we pray without ceasing and maintain that intimate connection with you Lord. Expand our horizons and give us a vision of your ways Lord. Teach us to care for what you care about. Lead us in prayer Jesus. In your name we pray. Amen.
